How to Use Kling 4.0 Without an Ultra Subscription
Short answer, as of October 1, 2026: you can't yet. Kling 4.0 Flash is limited to Kling's top annual members, the full Kling 4.0 goes public sometime in October, and no API provider carries it. Your real options are waiting for the October rollout, waiting for an API, or using a 30-second model that's already available.
Below is every route to Kling 4.0, what each one costs, and how to tell when one of them opens. If you want the specs first, start with what's confirmed about Kling 4.0.
Who Can Use Kling 4.0 Right Now?
| Route | Kling 4.0 status (Oct 1) | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Kling Ultra, annual ("Black Gold" in China) | Flash only, limited early access | Ultra is $180/month for 26,000 credits |
| Kling Standard, Pro, Premier | Not announced | $10, $37, $92 per month |
| Kling free tier | Not announced | 66 credits/day, 360p to 540p, watermarked |
| Official Kling API | Not announced | Not published |
| Third-party APIs (WaveSpeed, Kie) | Not listed | Not published |
Plan prices are monthly list prices per eesel's Kling pricing breakdown. Free-tier limits per this guide to Kling's free plan.
Should You Upgrade to Ultra to Get Kling 4.0 Flash?
Probably not. On top of the $180, it's unclear who qualifies, and Flash isn't the model most people want.
Kuaishou's Chinese announcement opens Flash to 黑金年卡会员, which translates to "Black Gold annual-card members." English coverage calls them "Ultra Yearly subscribers." The catch is that Kling's global Ultra plan had no annual billing option as of mid-2026. It was $180 a month, monthly only. Kuaishou's English release page sidesteps the question entirely and says Flash went to "a limited group of users."
So if you're outside China and pay for Ultra this week, there's no guarantee Flash shows up in your model picker. Ask Kling support before you pay, not after.
Say it does show up. What you get for $180 is Kling 4.0 Flash: clips of 3 to 20 seconds at 720p, in standard dynamic range. That's the speed tier. The features that make Kling 4.0 interesting (30-second clips, 10 keyframes, 4K, 10-bit HDR) all belong to the full model, which isn't in the beta. You'd be paying flagship money for early access to the draft model.
If you were going to be on Ultra anyway for the 26,000 credits, Flash is a nice bonus. As a reason to upgrade, it doesn't hold up.
Route 1: Wait for the Public Launch in October
This is the route most people will take, and it costs nothing extra if you already have a Kling plan.
What we know: Kuaishou says "October." What we don't: which plans get it first. When Kling 3.0 launched on February 5, 2026, it rolled out to Ultra subscribers first before reaching lower tiers. A similar staged rollout for 4.0 would surprise nobody.
Two more things to expect. Kling hasn't published how many credits a 4.0 generation costs, and given the jump to 30 seconds and 4K, it would be unusual for it to be cheaper per second than 3.0. And whether free users get 4.0 at all is an open question. Kling's free tier tops out at 540p, which can't show off a 4K model anyway.
How to know when it's live: check the model picker on kling.ai.
Route 2: Wait for the API (Pay Per Clip, No Subscription)
If you'd rather pay for what you generate than commit to a monthly plan, the API route is the one to watch. It's also how most Kling models end up on other sites.
Right now it's empty. Kuaishou's 4.0 release note doesn't mention developer access. On October 1 we checked the model catalogs at WaveSpeed and Kie, two of the API providers that usually carry new Kling models. Both top out at the Kling 3.0 family. WaveSpeed has published several Kling 4.0 previews on its blog and says it will add the model once API access opens, but there's no listing yet.
How long will that take? We couldn't find a reliable record of how quickly Kling 3.0 reached third-party APIs, so we won't guess a date. Plan for "after the October launch," not "at it."
When it does land, API pricing is per second of video with no subscription attached. We'll update this post the day a listing appears.
Route 3: Use a 30-Second Model That's Already Out
If what you want from Kling 4.0 is long, single-pass clips with sound, you don't have to wait. Wan 3.0 from Alibaba already does it:
| Kling 4.0 (announced) | Wan 3.0 (available) | |
|---|---|---|
| Clip length | 3 to 30 seconds | 2 to 30 seconds |
| Resolution | Up to 4K | Up to 1080p |
| Reference images | Up to 10 | Up to 10 |
| Reference videos | Up to 5 | Up to 5 |
| Reference audio | Not in Kling's spec table | Up to 5 |
| Frame control | Up to 10 keyframes | First and last frame |
| Native audio | Yes | Yes |
The reference limits line up almost exactly. What Wan 3.0 won't give you is 4K, HDR, or keyframes beyond the first and last. If any of those is the reason you're after Kling 4.0, wait.
For everything else, here's what Wan 3.0 costs on VidCella at the Normal speed tier. Credit packs run $10 for 800 credits up to $50 for 5,000, so a credit costs between 1 and 1.25 cents depending on the pack:
| Clip | Credits | Approx. cost |
|---|---|---|
| 10 seconds, 720p | 300 | $3.00 to $3.75 |
| 15 seconds, 1080p | 900 | $9.00 to $11.25 |
| 30 seconds, 1080p | 1,800 | $18.00 to $22.50 |
Put that next to Ultra. One month of Ultra is $180. The same $180 in credit packs buys 14,400 to 18,000 credits, which is 48 to 60 ten-second 720p Wan 3.0 clips, and pack credits don't expire. You pay for the clips you make, and nothing renews.
Be Careful With "Kling 4.0" Sites
Search "Kling 4.0" and you'll find exact-match domains and "Kling 4 API" landing pages, some offering generations today. Before you pay any of them, run one check: where would they be getting the model from?
Kuaishou hasn't announced an API. The major API providers don't list it. So a third-party site that claims to generate Kling 4.0 video on October 1 is either running an older Kling model under a new label or taking money for a waitlist. Neither one is Kling 4.0. Once an API listing shows up on WaveSpeed or Kie, that changes.
FAQ
Can I use Kling 4.0 for free?
Not right now. Only Kling 4.0 Flash is available, and only to Kling's top annual members. Kuaishou hasn't said whether the free tier will get Kling 4.0 after the October launch.
Does Kling Pro or Premier get Kling 4.0?
Not yet. Kuaishou hasn't announced which plans get Kling 4.0 at launch. Kling 3.0 reached Ultra subscribers first, so a staged rollout is likely.
Is Kling 4.0 Flash worth upgrading to Ultra for?
For most people, no. Flash is limited to 720p and 20 seconds, and it's unclear whether monthly Ultra subscribers outside China qualify. The headline features belong to the full model.
When will Kling 4.0 be available through an API?
There's no date. Kuaishou's release note doesn't mention an API, and WaveSpeed and Kie don't list it as of October 1, 2026. Expect it after the October public launch.
What's the closest alternative to Kling 4.0 right now?
For 30-second clips with native audio and multi-reference input, Wan 3.0. It matches Kling 4.0's image and video reference limits but tops out at 1080p and doesn't support 10-keyframe control.
Bottom Line
There's no way into Kling 4.0 today that doesn't run through Kling's most expensive tier, and even that only gets you the 720p Flash model. Within October that will start to change: first the public launch on kling.ai, then, at some point after, API access and pay-per-clip pricing.
If you need 30-second clips with audio before then, Wan 3.0 does it now, by the second, with no plan to cancel later.
